=== College Career: A Dominant Freshman Year === After high school, Durant committed to play for the Texas Longhorns under coach Rick Barnes. In his freshman season (2006-2007), Durant quickly proved that he was ready for the next level. He led the nation in scoring, averaging 25.8 points per game, and his performance made him the consensus national player of the year. Durant’s versatility was evident; he could shoot over defenders, finish at the rim, and had a refined basketball IQ that allowed him to excel on both ends of the floor. Although Texas did not make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament that year, Durant’s individual performance left an unforgettable impression. He declared for the 2007 NBA Draft, and his time at Texas, though brief, was enough to show scouts and analysts that he had the potential to be a future superstar.
